Help Make a Difference! | CEA October 2022 Newsletter

We may all start life the same way but on very different playing fields. We don’t get to pick what situation in life we are born into. If you did not suffer malnutrition, abandonment, neglect, abuse (physical, mental, sexual), or were born into extreme poverty…consider yourself lucky and blessed.

Many children here in the Philippines suffer the above-mentioned situations. The Joint Child Malnutrition Estimates 2021 edition states that in 2020, globally, among children under 5 years old around 6.7 per cent or 45.4 million were wasted and 149.2 million (or 22 per cent) were stunted.

About 1.8 million children in the Philippines, more than 1% of its entire population, are “abandoned or neglected,” according to the United Nations’ Children’s Rights & Emergency Relief Organization. According to UNICEF eighty per cent of Filipino children have experienced some form of violence at home, in school, in their community and online. The prevalence of sexual violence in the home is estimated at 13.7 percent.

Among Filipinos, the poverty incidence was 23.7 percent in first semester of 2021 or about 26.14 million poor Filipinos. These families have incomes that are not sufficient to buy their minimum basic food and non-food needs.

We cannot solve all these problems but with your help we can give HOPE to the fortunate children of CEA and try to stop this vicious cycle repeating. Let’s do our part to show HIS love to these children.

We still need substantial funding to complete this building. It is essential for our compliance with the licensing agency to continue to comply with their requirements of which this building will help address.

Christmas is Coming!

Here in the Philippines the Christmas trees, decorations, and music are already a part of your shopping experience in the malls and stores. Seems a bit early to some, but we are already beginning to think of what we will be buying for the children and Christmas plans so when “crunch time” hits we are already prepared and will not have to fight the crowds at the stores!

Each child will receive a few gifts, not always the same, but of equal value. The children have already put in their “Christmas wish list” to help give us some ideas of what they would like. They are requesting things like watches, sweatpants, shoes, and jackets.

If you are able in the next couple of months to add a small amount ($5 – $15 per child) for your sponsored child or children, we will put this towards gifts for the children as well as a Christmas party with special foods and treats.

Let’s pray this year will not be like last year with a typhoon, flooding, and power outages!
